Message from CEO

As we approach the end of February 2025, the team at Volunteering SA&NT is excited for the months ahead and all the incredible opportunities to celebrate and support volunteering across South Australia and the Northern Territory.

We’re thrilled to announce that nominations for the 2025 NT Volunteer of the Year Awards will open on Monday 3rd March. These prestigious awards shine a light on the outstanding contributions of volunteers, volunteer-involving organisations, and grassroots groups to communities across the NT. The timing of the awards has been rescheduled to align so the ceremonies can be held during National Volunteer Week (19 – 25 May). Don’t miss the chance to recognise and celebrate your volunteer heroes!

At the same time, nominations for the 2025 South Australian Volunteering Awards are now open! If you know an individual or organisation making a significant impact in the community, now is the time to nominate them.

On another note, we are delighted to welcome Leah Cassiday, Chief Executive Officer of Sport SA, to our Board. Leah brings extensive leadership experience in sport, recreation, education management, and human services, which will be invaluable as we strengthen our relationship with sporting organisations and explore new avenues for volunteer engagement.

A huge thank you to everyone who continues to contribute to volunteering across South Australia and the Northern Territory. We can’t wait to see all the inspiring nominations for the upcoming awards and look forward to another successful State Conference. If you have any questions or need support, please reach out – our team is here to help.

      Saltbush Social Enterprises

Saltbush is a not-for-profit organisation that provides and supports genuine opportunities that create prosperity parity for First Australians in the NT. Volunteering NT is proud to collaborate with Saltbush Social Enterprises through a Memorandum of Understanding to support its delivery of the Indigenous Skills and Employment Program (ISEP) in the Darwin region. ISEP is a national program focused on “Connecting First Nations people to jobs, career advancement opportunities, and to new training and job-ready activities.”

The ISEP program being delivered by Saltbush includes a volunteer component where participants undertake 15 hours of volunteering as part of gaining experience in the workplace.

Volunteering NT will play a partner role by linking ISEP participants with its network of Volunteer Involving Organisations to undertake 15 hours of meaningful volunteering and gain workplace experience aligned with their employment aspirations. Organisations offering volunteer opportunities to ISEP participants will receive cultural safety training through Saltbush.

Last week, Volunteering NT participated in a session with 10 ISEP participants to explore volunteering and gain insights into volunteering interests. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with such an inspirational group of people and be part of their skills and employment journey with Saltbush.

If you are a Volunteer-Involving Organisation based in the Darwin and Palmerston region and are interested in offering volunteer opportunities to ISEP participants, please contact us at vnt@vsant.org.au.
