Message from CEO

Welcome to 2025!

I hope you had a safe and happy festive season and I thank everyone who volunteered their time during the holidays.

As your peak body for volunteering in South Australia, Volunteering SA&NT is here to support you on your volunteering journey and to help build a thriving volunteer team for your organisation. Our experienced team is excited about what 2025 holds and is keen to help you in any way we can.

We recently welcomed our new Marketing and Communications Officer Gabriela Vasconcelos, who brings a wealth of knowledge and skills. Please join me in welcoming Gabriela as she works to promote the great contribution of volunteers to our community.

In exciting news, I can announce that nominations for the 2025 SA Volunteer Awards are opening soon. You can help recognise the invaluable work that volunteers, volunteer managers, community organisations and businesses contribute to the South Australian community by nominating them for an award – or you can even self-nominate.  Keep an eye on our website and socials for more information.

As we strap ourselves in for another busy year, I wish you and your organisation all the best as we continue to support our community through kindness and contribution.

Anne explores volunteering

After retiring from a career in finance, Anne was keen to do something different that would keep her active.

She found what she was looking for with Holiday Explorers, a Commonwealth Home Support Service (CHSP) and National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provider. The organisation creates opportunities for people of all abilities to enjoy a variety of experiences on trips and tours.

Read more of Anne's story.

University of Adelaide Volunteer Achievement Awards

VSA&NT was proud to be part of the judging panel for The University of Adelaide Volunteer Achievement Awards in December.

Congratulations to Student Volunteer of the Year Alex Nguyen (shown above), who has

volunteered for more than 300 hours across 12 programs for the University. Alex’s highlight was guiding Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Ambassador during their visit to Adelaide.

The Talking with Aussies Program, which has been serving international students for 29 years, won Community Volunteer Group of the Year. Last year 130 volunteers supported activities including walks, coffee chats, and group excursions.

The Student Volunteer Group of the Year was the Academic Integrity Ambassador Program, which involved 25 volunteers over the past two years. The group hosted Academic Integrity Awareness Week, held class visits, hub stalls, colloquiums, panels and created educational resources.

Volunteer Project of the Year was awarded to Children’s University and its volunteers support of the Wonderverse production by Patch Theatre.

Your voice matters and we want to ensure that the issues you face as a volunteer manager, or as a volunteer involving organisation, are heard and addressed by policymakers.

The aim of this survey is to understand your challenges, needs, and opportunities and to present those findings to government, the opposition and to candidates, to help shape future volunteering policies and programs.
